I suppose I was a little presumptuous to assume that people in Papua New Guinea celebrate Thanksgiving - I always just assumed that the same holidays we have in the States are celebrated wherever I happen to be. Although Thanksgiving is not an “official” holiday in PNG, we were able to find some friends (mostly Americans) who were able to take the day off of work and we had a wonderful celebration together. We had a meal as close to a Thanksgiving meal as possible and were even able to watch a professional football game (taped from earlier in the season). As nice as our time with friends was, it was no match for being with family for the holidays. Here are some snapshots of our celebration!
